Yikes... I had noticed increasing resistance in the key slot recently, particularly the effort it took to engage the starter, but without much warning, the ignition lock interior totally self-destructed in a parking lot. No resistance at all, no detent where the starter engage would have been, no spring return, no nothing. And when it broke, it left the main electrics in the "on" position. The battery drained completely, of course. Now what?
What is the work-around, if any? Can I tap into the wiring someplace so at least I can start the car and drive it home? How do you hot wire the starter (maybe +12V onto that slip-on contact atop the bendix/solenoid? Is the ignition switch an OEM-only part? How big a hassle is it to pull off the center console and access that puppy?
