By mechanic (Scanwest Auto, Seattle) had my AMM replaced a little over two years ago (9/07) explaining it to be the culprit of my CEL. So last September (9/09) I was charged $400+ just for the part itself not including their $85 an hour labor fee for a factory rebuilt AMM.
Last March (3/08) I began having a sporadic CEL issues again, but having just been in for a checkup and oil & filter change, did not think much of it but as it increased in frequency I finally brought it in again in September (9/90) and was told that again it was my AMM and the factory warranty was only for 1 year. I was told again I needed a replacement but the price for the price had gone up to $500. I asked why the AMM needed to be replaced every two years (or 1.5 years if I had been wise enough to bring it in immediately), as the price is hardly cheap. I was told it doesn't happen often but they chalked it up to my bad luck.
Okay, now only 3 months later the CEL has now started acting up again. I realize I am under warranty, but I'm beginning to suspect there is something else going on other than the AMM and I'm being ripped off and a victim either incompetent mechanics or intentional duplicity. I asked for them to get back to me as to why I my AMM broke down so soon since it's obviously not a cheap part. They told me they would call me with an answer, something that never happened.
I'm going to call ScanWest this morning to explain my frustrating predicament, but I was wondering if someone knowledgeable individual could be kind enough to offer any possible alternative explanations and advice of what my particular problem might be? Has anyone ever had any similar experiences with AMM's breaking so often?
In my case, the CEL would turn no out of the blue as I'm driving on the freeway. It would stay on for about 5 minutes, then turn off. Lately, the CEL has come on within 5 minutes of starting my car, before turning off.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advanced for anyone kind enough to offer their time in responding to my inquiry.
Thank you.
