Master cylinder woes! Cannot bleed the brakes....long! Posted by nicknick [Email] (#731) [Profile/Gallery] (more from nicknick) on Thu, 7 Jan 2010 11:59:57 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
OK, '88 SPG. Last summer i had some strange sinking to the floor (brake pedal) when it was very hot out, only occasionally. Bought a rebuilt master. Finally installed it late summer. Everything good. My front rotors had been warped from poor wheel bolt torquing (won't go back to that tire place again!), so i had a set waiting to go in. The trans blew early winter, so i decided to install new pads and rotors at the same time. However, when i pulled the motor, the alternator adjuster caught the reservoir, and lifted it off the master. Bled the brakes, installed new pads, etc. Pedal never firmed up. At first i put it down to pads seating, but after a couple hundred miles, i realized it was actually slowly sinking (at a light, for example). So, i buy a new (not rebuilt) unit, install that, no difference!. Swap the front calipers with known good ones, no difference. My bleeding method was always using a 'one man bleeder' kit, with careful attention to how wide the bleeder nipple was opened (so as not to let little bubbles in). So, yesterday i used my old MC res cap, and made a pressure bleeder. I have one of those 10 gal tanks, pressurized it to 15 psi, bled all the brakes ( i am using the correct sequence LR, RF, RR, LF), still no difference! The only parts of the brake system left are the rear calipers (actually only one as of this moment, and the other one will get replaced in an hour or so), the brake lines, and that distribution block for the rear brakes on the firewall.
So, what is going on? I have put about 3 qts dot4 through at this point, i always make sure the car is level, never, ever had problems blleding brakes before, but i have spent about 14 hours all in on this!!!
TIA
