well yeah if the item is sitting at 1dollar and someone wants to bid on it (lets call bidder f9 )but f9 knows they are not going to be around for the end of the auction instead of bidding a dollar f9 puts in a bid of bid 250.$ then splits to go on a trip.
what that doses is show on the ebay page the highest bid is a buck held by f9 (or bidder 1), but what other bidders don't know is f9`s max bid is 250 bucks. so when someone comes in to the action (lets call this bidder g5) and sees f9 has the item for a buck, g5 think heck ill pay 5 bucks for that item, and then submit ts a bid of 5 bucks, what happens is f9s bid automatically goes to 5.10cents the instant g5 hits submit bid, so now g5 is thinking wow its a bidding war and submits a bid for 6 bucks, once again f9`s bid goes to 6.10 cents over the bid g5 just put in. only way g5 can get the item is if their bid goes over f9`s 250. initial bid.
say everyone stops bidding and the auction ends at 123.53 still under the 250. f9 put in, f9 walks away with the item for 123.53
happy bidding bidders and thanks for the info of the decoder panel i always wanted it.
on a side note, the seller can put in a price that they want the item to sell at or above, if the item doesn't reach the designated price through out the auction nobody gets the item, i.e. goes back to the seller and they resubmit the item in hopes next auction will fetch more bidders to get the price above the minimum the seller set.
