I generally try to keep my questions limited to the 900 stuff but I thought somebody might be able to guide me in the right direction on our other car with some general questions that I have about redoing the heads.
Our 1999 Dodge 2.7L DOHC recently broke an intake valve spring. Piston was okay. Our mechanic installed a new intake valve(the one with the broken valve spring), 24 new valve springs, valve seals, and timing chain, tensioner and water pump. Yesterday, I drove the car a whopping 15 minutes from the shop and it sounded like the same thing all over again, shuddering engine, light tapping noise in upper engine, stalled out. No oil light on either occasion. Car is back at his shop. Assuming that it's the same valve or possibly a broken valve spring again(all 24 were replaced), what would cause a repeat problem like this? Could the valve guide have been damaged from the first incident and he possibly missed it? Anything else he could have missed doing the heads?
My 900 has bailed us out in its role as a 3rd car and has been a reliable 22 year old gem through this ordeal starting last November around Thanksgiving. It's looking like it will need to keep up the good work!
Your input and help is greatly appreciated!
