You can't blame the car for a bad previous owner.
The person you bought it from probably knew the car had an issue, threw a new battery in it and now it's not their problem.
If you're doing short trips, in the day without the much on, you can go two weeks running just off the battery.
So now assume, the previous owner was a dill hole and sold a poorly maintained car. To be fair, maybe they got the oil changed and unplugged the stator wire to the alternator.
Fist: make sure the wire (usually green) is actually attached to the alternator. It's the small one. If it is attached, pull it off and make sure the wire isn't just sitting in the connector and not electrically/physically connected to the alternator. Some alternators have more than one place you COULD attached the wire to (maybe they knocked the wire off when pulling out the filter or something.)
That wire just broke in my car. I noticed that the windows were going up slow. Broke out the multimeter and, no charging. The wire was only sitting in the connector and not attached to the alternator.
If the wire looks good, you have to go get the battery charged and get a multimeter. The voltage at the battery should be 12.5-13v with the car off and 14v+ with the car running.
If you can't get 14v with the car running - post back and we'll help you sort it out.
And go buy a Bentley manual for the car if you don't have one already. Don't even bother with the other manuals.
