Replace power steering pump notes....... Posted by K-Saab [Email] (#1142) [Profile/Gallery] (more from K-Saab) on Mon, 1 Mar 2010 14:19:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Having just replaced my power steering pump, I have some notes for anyone contemplating this task.
Use a set of ramps. Getting to the bottom bolt is much easier. You need a 16 mm open end wrench to remove the fluid lines. Never, I repeat never remove the bracket on top of the motor mount that goes to the cylinder head & p/s pump bracket with out first supporting the engine. Wear exam gloves. Use Silicone on the lower grommet to hold it in the bracket. Replace both grommets. Getting the pump out of the engine bay with the bracket on is possible but not very easy. It is possible to assemble the pump & bracket in the engine cavity as seperate units. The pully puller from Pep Boys works great to remove the pully. Let a shop install the pully on your new pump. It is possible to do it your self with a bolt & fender washer, but not very easy.
This job tested my metal. The car is back on the road & just passed a safety inspection. Time for some driving fun.
