Hello...recently picked up my 90 Saab 900 16v n/a from the local independent guy after getting 213k out of the original Bilsteins (replaced with GR2's), and now after gaining back some handling and comfort, I'm having problems with the car. It fails to have the ability to accelerate safely up slight inclines and hills. Here's some background...car has had lingering CEL issues since I purchased it in '04 with 147k. For the past few years, I have been running a made to fit (and what I believe to be original) ending with 013 AMM fitted to a 2.1L airbox. I've had good success with this setup (30+mpg's regularly hwy), but after the recent troubles, I decided to change it out with another MAF sensor cleaner cleaned 013 match AMM and put the car back to original air intake plumbing. Alas, no check engine lights, solid starts, no hunting, steady idle. Wasn't really having issues with these items prior, minus the lag. Life is good, or so one would think. Recent repairs in the last year include having to replace the intermediate y-pipe along with O2 sensor (wire in type), and a used cat converter. Converter was decent, or my Saab guy would have said forget it. NGK plugs are recent, and look good. New cap and rotor. Newer Bosch 7mm silicone wires. Fan thermotime switch is newer, put in 192 degree thermostat. Radiator replaced within last six months with identical used low mileage replacement. I will say this...Saab repair guy said "don't buy the 192 degree thermostat", and I said, "I will like the heat in the winter". Of course, I was trying to be optimistic about my choice (heater core and valve have both been replaced by me). Many years ago when I had an '86 n/a 16 valve, I had a thermostat stick open, and gave me the sort of same conditions I'm experiencing now. Major acceleration lag when warmed up, and was running rich. I'm not running rich now, but even today (54 degrees out), my thermostat was acting up, as in getting too warm for this normal of a March temp. in Central Penn. (fans kicking on in standstill traffic and getting up to 3/4 of the temp gauge) So, I purchased a 180 degree Stant thermostat to replace the less than a year old Beck Arnley that no matter what isn't performing right. I'm just wondering which direction to go in next. Throttle body is clean, AIC is clean and sounding as it should, no vacuum leaks found. Revs fine, idles fines, starts quick, but is doggin' it so bad, that I'm afraid to take this car any further than in town. Ran some fuel injector cleaner through, run 89 octane gas regularly, and only have what appears to be fuel consumption issue when traveling up lots of inclines. Fuel filter hasn't been replaced in years, and I have a hunch it's not fuel delivery. Does anyone have any insight as to what I'm experiencing? Timing chain, tensioner, and guides are original. No noises coming from the firewall. Could I have valve troubles? I haven't performed compression check yet, but I would figure I would have issues upon startup and warmup felt if compression was the culprit. No oil in coolant, and no coolant in oil. I'm changing the thermostat tomorrow morning, but I was wondering which direction to go next?
