Saab 900 T 1984

Here is the problem:

While driving with full power the car will suddenly loose engine power, the engine continues to run, but the accelerator is not responsive, then the car will sometimes die. Afterward in trying to restart the car, engine will crank but not catch. Given a little while it will start up again just fine as though nothing is wrong. This happen only every once in a while, but as you can imagine it is very disconcerting and dangerious.

The car typically runs strong, but this is a strange occurrence that my mechanic cannot seem to trouble shoot.

I am going to replace the wires, distributor cap & rotor, plugs and fuel filter this week –end. Hopefully this will help.

I am wondering if it may be a fuel pump issue, or some other defect???

Any ideas…
