electrical issues

I have had a series of problems that are all electrically based. I've replaced the alternator and the battery, but the car still runs poopy.
Some thoughts on this:
1. After putting in the new alternator and proper volts running through the car, my fuel pump relay melted and had to be replaced. We checked the wires in the bulkhead that feed the relay but nothing looked suspicious. I have a feeling that my fuel pump relay will melt again.
2. Put new relay in... and speedometer immediately died and audio speakers started shorting out... acting like they were not getting enough power.
3. It is summertime here in the US and when its hot, the fan will kick on, rpms will plummet and car will try to stall. The analysis is that the engine fan is going bad and overloading the alternator, but also that I have a cranky old AIC valve.
4. Speaking of the AIC valve, if I take my foot off the gas, rpms plummet anyway and my plan is to remove the valve, clean it and make sure it opens and closes properly. And then there is my AMM...
but the underlying issue is there are draws all over my car that are causing it to run poorly. I've isolated a few of them, but I really don't want to blow up my new alternator. I'm considering replacing the voltage regulator. And I'd rather not have continously melting fuel pump relays either.
Anyone have any ideas?
