Noel,
I've never looked at a Bentley (for C900s) so I can't comment on their precision on this. Spark plug #1 (closest to the firewall) should be connected to the dist. cap tower which is at approximately 10 o'clock when viewed from in front of the car. The rotor rotates anti-clockwise and the firing order is 1-3-4-2 so plug #3 (3rd from the firewall) will connect to the tower at approx. 7 o'clock, plug #4 (farthest from the firewall) connects to the tower at approx. 4 o'clock and plug #2 goes to the tower at approx. 2 o'clock. For purposes of "Static timing" placing the distributor so the top two towers are exactly horizontal (parallel to the ground) will get the car running. All of this relates to the 16 valve C900 B202 engine of course.
