I sold tires for many years. Coopers don't generally hold a candle to most other brands. The rubber compounds & overall construction are "simple" by comparison. There's obviously a LOT less R&D that goes into their products. Whenever I sold a set of Coopers, I crossed my fingers...knowing there was a high likelihood the customer would return w/ride quality complaints - or not return at all, ever.
In layman's terms; if money is an issue...Coopers are a good bang for the buck & won't explode when you hit a squirrel the way the x4 for $99 specials will. However, you'll be sorry if you're sensitive to ride quality & noise....perhaps not right away, but you will.
I'd only recommend Coopers to PU truck owners...w/loud radios.
Btw, treadepot is running a special thru 7/1 for $25 off purchases of $250 or more. After that disc, a nice set of General Altimax 195/60VR15's can be had for $243 (+ $56 shipping for x4 = $299). The HR version falls under the $250 threshold & won't enjoy the discount. Don't order them until you find a place to mount/balance them. Any place that sells tires will tell you to take a hike, but there are repair facilities w/proper equipment...most will charge $20 or $25 per wheel. OR, take the online deal info to a tire place & see how much they want your business. Have a few different tires you like as a back up in the event the sales person is well trained..."vee have vays of changing your mind" ;)
General is made by Michelin & Sumitomo is a Dunlop subsidiary. Most Major brands do this, some have several "ghost brands" that change from time to time. Quality is typically fine, but availability can be an issue if you blow a tire far away from home or after the production run has ended.
