front seat keeps springing back up

Hi guys,
I have a 1993 900s with leather seats. I'm taking off the leather skins to refinish them and was hoping someone has dealt with the following problem.
The driver seat has a level on the side to lower the seat which works but it doesn't lock, every time I get out, the seat springs back all the way up which means getting in is difficult and have to readjust the seat each time.
Also, the release switch that moves the seat forward to let the rear passengers get in and out doesn't work.
Have you tried fixing this before? Is it easy or impossible?
Thanks!
Sam
