Working on the radio, car won't start? Long Posted by Scott Brown [Email] (#1388) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Scott Brown) on Sat, 10 Jul 2010 18:15:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I got some Clarion radio removal tools recently (thanks those who suggested this on an earlier thread) and successfully removed my radio to add a cable to the auxiliary. This was successful, however when I tried to start my car, it wouldn't start!!! AArgh!! Help.
The car is a 92 turbo convertible. Some previous owner had added a bunch of wiring that i suspect was to add an amplifier, etc. (though one wire was labeled PC, odd). I removed some of the wiring I didn't need and found some went down above the pedals. I was reaching into the radio opening, and was gentle i think, but i was pulling on wires and figuring out what was what. I got everything buttoned up, and tried to start the car. All lights and gauges come on normally, however the starter does not engage.
Is there anything I could have hit or disconnected up there?
Two possibly unrelated items:
My brake pedal feels odd in that it pushes in and sounds like a spring that "sprongs". It did not do this before my work. Is there some switch that would prevent the starter from functioning by the brake pedal that I may have done something to?
I was also checking out my interior fan, as it worked intermittently last year and finally quit this year. I removed the front right speaker and found that the fan is getting power. I also checked connections under the radio and all seems to be hooked up. It leads me to believe the fan is fried, and I can't imagine this is related, but i did work on it that fateful day.
I obviously pulled a wire or disconnected something, but I am at a loss as to what. I can't imagine the ignition wires in these areas. I suspect something related to the brake pedal, but still i am unsure. I am looking for my Bentley to research as well, but figured the saabnet collective could steer me in the right direction.
Sorry for the long post, and thanks in advance. I'm down a car and would love to get this dealt with this weekend.
