Consequence(s?) of STS bulb removal

I was fixing wire connections at the ignition switch the other night on my '93 900 and think I fixed it, but thereafter the SRS light has come on, flashing at first and then burning steady. I've looked at the board and seen that this is a common experience (the outcome; not in that exact sequence of events) and many suggestions for resetting the cpu, but also for removing the warning bulb.
What I could not find among prior posts was any hint regarding functional consequences of doing the latter-- that is, removing the bulb. I have no plans to sell the car, nor does it need to pass any state inspections; but, ala the alternator bulb, would its removal affect the airbag operation/deployment in the event of impact?
