When I'm done with the clutch job, I don't use the hydraulic system to press the clutch in to get the Saab factory pressure plate spacer out, that's too much of a risk popping the slave cylinder piston out.
I just use a pry bar and tap the ring out one finger (or two) at the time until the spacer falls out.
Even with a pressure bleeder and bleeding all the air bubbles out I have yet after all these years had a firm pedal but has to pump the pedal some 20-40 times where after I can feel that the system is being pressurized more and more for every pump.
Why that is, I don't know but that's the way it has been so I don't worry about. I just bleed the system until air is gone, close the nipple and then pump the pedal full strokes like a mad man until I have a firm pedal.
