I recently flushed out a nasty cooling sys repeatedly - 1st w/h2o, then w/Prestone citrus flush, then h2o again, then w/citrus flush....repeated several more times (it was gross). I ran the car for a week+ that way, then flushed twice more, this time using distilled h20. After all that & refilling w/50% AF (did use the green stuff...not my car), the water pump crapped out!!!! Yeah, it was old...but even so, my advice is to:
a) not let your coolant changes become overdue.
b) not run the motor excessively during whatever flushing procedure.
Also, lots more crud can be removed by pulling the heater hoses [be very careful not to over tighten the clamps afterwards...I've encountered a couple of damaged plastic heater valve connections] & applying full garden hose pressure to each opening one at a time. You'll blow all sorts of junk out of the heater core (assuming you remember to open the heater control fully) you'd never know was in there otherwise.
