Hello experienced Saabers,

I have a 1990 SPG with ~236k miles on it. I normally drive it about 90 miles / day commuting to work and school.

A few weeks ago I went to start it in the morning---it started up, but then the idle seemed to be struggling. I gave her a little gas and it instantly died. Started right up again but then had the same problem. After a few times, it wouldn't start up anymore, just turn over and occasionally make a rumble sound like it wanted to fire but wasn't.

I replaced the spark plugs, which I hadn't done since getting the car (with 220k miles on it).

Replaced the distributor cap---should mention that there was a small amount of water in the cap (the plug for the Hall sensor is broken so the plug hangs out the side of the dizzy and has a little room for moisture to get in there).

Replaced the battery which Autozone said was faulty. Tested all the ignition components for resistance according to the Bentley manual (spark plug wires, coil, rotor). Tested for signal at the ignition unit on drivers side inside fender. Tested voltage at AIC and throttle, according to Bentley. Got voltage across a fuel injector, which the Townshend checklist I downloaded said rules out the two relays and ECU under the pass. side (which I haven't messed with at all).

Cracked the banjo bolt on the fuel rail and fuel squirted out. Tried unplugging the AMM.

Checked tubing, etc for air leaks.

Any ideas? I'm basically going according to the Bentley book no start checklist but is there something I should look into?

I should also mention that I at one point we replaced the vacuum fitting on the top of the intake manifold with one that only sort of fit, which we gorilla glued into place. During the course of messing about trying to figure out what's wrong, I at some point removed the nozzle and discovered that the bottom flange of it seems to have broken off and presumably is inside the intake manifold---maybe it's blocking something in there? How the heck would I get it out?

I should also mention that I don't really have any idea what I'm doing. I'm open to any suggestions.

Thank you in advance for what I know will be excellent and very kind advice!

Sky
