If you've got both out, it's a ton easier to bolt them together out of the car, then drop the whole thing in as a unit.
I've heard - but not yet seen - that there are mechanics who will pull the transmissions from a 900 without pulling both motor and trans (it comes out the bottom). The motor stays more or less in place, probably with some assistance, but one doesn't have to disturb all of the fuel lines, electrics, etc.
