1990 Saab Turbo Conv (manual). 189k miles.
Symptom: Driving about 60 down the highway and all the sudden I lost power and car coasted towards offramp. Car would not restart, called tow-truck and hauled home. Let car cool down, and got a restart. Rough idle, opened hood and checked oil. Opened oil filler cap and smoke was shooting out (pressure). Noticed significant amount of oil inside of intercooler lines. Removed exhaust manifold and pulled turbo together. Checked for free play in turbo bearing, but turbo had no play at all. Could my turbo have gone out and oil bypassed due to worn turbo seal or clogged oil return line? AIC and AMM is brand new. EGT looks old but not for sure if this is the problem. I am guessing the turbo failed because I have oil bypassing the turbo and notice excessive pressure in the engine due to smoke blowing from oil filler. Since I removed the turbo who thinks its best to go ahead and get a rebuild? Or should I simply buy a new oil line? I bought the car 2 yrs ago and only put on 3k miles. The car has never had a good idle. Perhaps the APC is bad and also the oxy sensor but I digress. All mentioned items except the turbo and oil return line have been replaced. I just hope that knocking I hear is the knock sensor and not a rod. Shade-tree could use some good advice if possible. BTW... I live in Arizona and it never gets colder that 40deg in winter. Summer around 116Deg ~thx
