First step would be to try bleeding the clutch line. Second step might be to replace the clutch hydraulic hose, which is mostly steel however it contains a rubber hose section about 10 inches long that starts to balloon with age, giving a soft pedal like you describe. Be forewarned that when you bleed the clutch, the increased pressure may cause the hydraulic hose or other components to fail. Happened to mine. You could in theory end up replacing the hydraulic hose and clutch slave (or even the master, not likely though). Good luck.
