That was a great way to make the old dog learn some new tricks :-) You can take the APC solenoid connector and remove it from the solenoid and then isolate it with some dielectric tape. Then, you will stay in base boost for a gentle break in.
Also, there is a product here in the states called Conklin which added to your engine oil would help the metal surfaces in contact with each other be in harmony. We spent the better part of a weekend working with this product and a dyno to see if there were performance results using it. Based on temperature corrections during the day, it did show an improvement in performance that would be the result of less friction. Normally, I am not a fan of oil additives, but after spending some time with the stuff, I now use it in all our recip equipment. Over the road diesel operators swear by it as well.
