Your '86 SPG Turbo should be a TB0356 (type), 748606 Garrett #, and 466952-0004E Saab #. There are several variations of these numbers that are the exact same turbo!
All of the '85 to '90 C-900 and '86 to '89 9000 turbo's have the worst of all T3 turbine wheel (exducer) blade clearance. They're (your) exducer size is 48mm where the Cosworth is 48.75mm. The turbine wheels I use for my T3/4 upgrades have a 49.25 exducer size. What's mind boggling is that all of these wheels are used in the same size (50.2mm) turbine housings! Mine come out to the just under .5mm (.0185") radial blade clearance I want but the stock Saab ones have a whopping 1.1mm radial clearance! The turbine wheel I use also has a 7mm larger inducer blade size (longer tips) which helps both top end and spool-up! It's not often you can have your cake and eat it too when it comes to turbocharger performance without going to real expensive ball bearing turbos. Borg Warner has done it with their plain bearing extended tip turbo technology so I choose both compressor and turbine wheels with a trim value along the line of a Borg Warner extended tip turbo wheel for all of my upgrades Garrett or Mitsubishi.
I've always wondered why Saab would choose the typical T3 Garrett rather than the Cosworth version or the one I use? My guess is that if they used the minimum safe blade to housing clearances I like that the quicker spool-up and improved top end power would have taken it's tole on especially C-900 transmissions and reduced the longevity these early Saab's have.
