If you were stopped at a corner and made a very sharp turn under acceleration one of your outer CV joints may have come apart losing it's 6 big (!/2"dia) steel balls. That may have enabled the inner end of the axle to pull out from the inner driver. Replacing the tripod bearing back into the inner driver still leaves the outer CV joint NOT connected to the axle because of the lost balls,hence the axle will just spin inside the CV joint when any gear is engaged. Visually test by firmly engaging the handbrake,start the engine in any gear, then get out and look under the front of the car to see if either axle is turning.(don't get run over!) If it is you need a new CV joint, boots, etc.
