Constant velocity Rzeppa joints don't seize up (as a rule) and they usually clatter like crazy when they run out of grease and become contaminated with dirt. If it was my car I'd remove the axle, disassemble, inspect and clean the CV joint and reassemble it with fresh CV grease and a new boot. I'd also take a close look at the front caliper. Prior to 1988 the 900 had it's parking brake on the front wheels and sometimes one or both will fail to release causing that resistance you are feeling. You can release the parking brake by turning the affected wheel out and then just prying the parking brake lever (on the caliper) back with something like a large screwdriver. Then you have to remember to not apply the brake until the condition is resolved.
