Oh, yeah - AMMs might be a good magic bullet too. Probably more likely than fuel injection ECUs. LH 2.4 AMMs are already very difficult to find, and good 2.2 ones impossible. Rebuilts exist, but IME they never last more than a few months or a couple years before they have issues.
I had the California BAR/CARB people on the phone the other day asking about an unrelated emissions question, and asked what happens when necessary, smog-related equipment (like fuel injection components) go NLA. In that case you have to let the BAR try to find the part for you, and if they can't do it you can have your car refereed on a case by case basis. Now, I'm almost HOPING fuel injection parts become impossible to find so I'll have a legal reason to install Megasquirt. Heh!
