Bad gas or something else? ARGH! Posted by gfreshski1 [Email] (#1116) [Profile/Gallery] (more from gfreshski1) on Sat, 12 Mar 2011 12:49:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hey fellow Saab lovers,
Two days ago, it was raining pretty hard here in NYC. I got in my car and headed on my way. Within 5 minutes, the engine started to run very rough, and it eventually stalled. I restarted it, but it ran very roughly, so much so that I had to get the revs up just to move the car slowly from the light to a curb. At idle, it stalled again.
I'm thinking to myself, "this is bad. Alternator? Fuel pump?"
Started again, and kept the engine around 3k rpm for 10 minutes. I was able to keep it running barely. Made it close to home, but on the way I noticed I could not get the turbo to go into the yellow zone.
So now I'm thinking I have a bum turbo charger. Finally, on a whim I decided to stop and fill up with some 93 octane gas (I usually use 89 or 91, never 87). Put 5 gallons in, started the car, drove off. Started feeling like her old self again. Stepped on the gas, turbo started going back into the yellow.
Anyone ever experience this? Was this just a case of bad gas or could there be something else to look for? (Drove it today, feels ok). Also, if it was bad gas, is there something I should do after this experience? Maybe octane additives?
Thanks all.
