Oil Pressure Gauge Sending Unit?

Hi Guys - My 1990 SPG has been sitting with a torn apart dash for the past year and a half . . . and upon putting it back together the VDO auxillary oil pressure gauge needle is pegged to the right.
The gauge has power and the ground seems fine. If I ground sending unit lead the needle swings back to the left - seeming like it's not getting any signal from the sender. The dash oil pressure light works fine.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
