The car is an 88 900S, automatic, 150K.
There has been a moderate PS fluid leak until I tightened the loose hose clamp at the bottom of the PS pump (on the supply hose from the reservoir). The leak stopped completely for about a week or two. Then it returned with a vengeance, twice, about a week apart. Strangely, there has been no leaks at all in between! Both leaks took place at night, dumping almost the whole reservoir clean! The leak stopped completely after the dumping! I added fluid, run the engine, turned the wheel from lock-to-lock, nothing! no leak at all!
I am theorizing that some seal shrink during the cold night, allowing the fluid to seep through. If true, which seal might this be? Is it repairable? does it take a new rack?
By the way, I have sucked out as much fluid as possible from the reservoir and added this two-part Bar's Leak PS Fluid stop leak.
