And it gets pretty hot here in LA too during the summer.
And you say that your accumulator is in good shape taking 12-14 hard rapid pumps on the pedal until the lights comes on?
Because if it is less than that (like 4-5) I can see that a hot temperatures might alter the pressure inside the chambers. But if that's the case, replacing the accumulator should fix the problem and you would not have to use the sock trick at all.
