I was thinking more about the forwards/backwards movement of the front mount. have you tried realignment of the shifter to transmission connection? How is the actual shifter components? Saabsite has a break down of the parts but, limit on availability. Could be looking at a worn shifter fork! Try the external things first. Wish I had a little gnome to check the movement of the mounts with a flash-light while I drove. 1/2 inch of up/down movement of front mount is just the rubber becoming pliable from use.
