4x10-6x9 adapters will work fine. The speakers will go into the cargo area about an inch though. I have 6x9s in my c900 coupes and they sound much better than a 4x10. Another option is to mount 6x9s to the cargo shelf and just have audio plugs on them in case you need to take the shelf out.
To mount speakers in the oem location you need to move the speaker cover trim piece out of the way. They are held on with two plastic plugs along the cargo shelf rail. Push the plugs out from behind with a flat-bladed screwdriver or something, then pivot the speaker cover on the rear seat shoulder belt to get it out of the way. It has a 5/8" flap that tucks up behind the c-pillar trim piece, but you should be able to twist it out and back in without removing that piece. Onc3e it's out of the way, you can access the speaker mounting hardware--mount whatever you like.
