Inner driver, housing/carrier swap, shims?

When discarding some broken automatic transmissions about a year ago, I pulled all the fresh-feeling inner drivers out of the diffs, housing/carrier and all.
Now, we've got a bad passenger side inner driver on a 5sp.
My question is, is it OK to use the housings/carriers from the donor transboxes, or do I need to have them pressed out of the donors and into the receivers? I kept all the shims matched to the housing/carriers they came out of...
My assumption is that I can use the donor housings/carriers so I don't have to do any pressing/swapping, but that I should use the shims that match the receiving transmission. Is this correct?
Thanks kindly!
