1986 Saab 900 S non-turbo 16 valve engine
6 months ago, car started popping out of 2nd gear in mid-RPMS
1 month ago, isolated instance where I couldn't shift into 5th.
2 days ago, I can no longer shift into 5th at all.
Possibly related:
Starting about 1-1.5 months ago, pulling out of parking space in the morning (cold engine) the car would buck on a steep uphill. Seemed like a slipping clutch? Only happened 2 or 3 times. Otherwise driving seems fairly normal.
Also possibly related (or not):
Brake master cylinder was replaced about a month ago. I know the reservoir is shared for the brake clutch. However the bucking started before this and the brake fluid never dropped enough to require a clutch bleed.
I looked at the engine mounts, rubber is slightly deteriorated. Accelerating with the E-brake on, I see maybe 1/2" of movement. Nothing particularly alarming.
I looked at the shifter linkage near the passenger firewall. Rubber cylinder looks in really good shape.
Thinking I should bleed the clutch and see if it helps, if it doesn't replace the clutch? Would appreciate any advice. Is this a transmission problem? All the other gears shift very smoothly.
Thanks for the help...
