but was able to figure out the trouble, and was able to rebuilt whole unit.
So...in a nutshell ....
*deep breath*
I sprayed some lube and cleaner in there to try and free the capsule, and went for a drive. Car puttered out about a mile down the road...and wouldnt re fire. I knew something was knackered, so i got out and popped the cap off. Well...all kinds of little pieces of hard plastic lined the bottom of the dist body. Must have been an old wire guard that shattered...but, that wouldnt cause me to not run. Then i saw it....
One of the hall sender leads had escaped past the plastic guard, got caught on the shutter wheel and sheared right off. Yeah...no bandaging this one.
Luckily, i had the spare dist in the truck...so i dug in, and with the minimal tools i had was able to replace the bad hall sender plate with the good one from the newer dist. Everything fit way more snug (though the shutter wheel still isnt snug) and the car is running great. It looks like some kind of washer belongs between the outer cir-clip and the shutter wheel...but, theres no such thing on either of my distributors.
While i was in there, i removed/cleaned/tested the capsule. Its working just fine, so i reinstalled all that stuff too. Did a quick test with the APC hose pinched to see if i hit the red...and it comes DARN close...but...no where near the power ive felt it deliver. In fact, feels slower than on base boost. Ive really gotta set the timing...
