I hoard good weatherstripping from the pick-n-pull.
If you're painting the whole car, strip all you can. if you have a sunroof, remove the outer panel + take everything off, deal with any rust in there + then paint. Both of ours had rust in the seams/edges/between the panel + the white metal pieces/screws.
I would even recommend pulling the carpet back and the metal sill plates off, + dealing with any rust there first. In around where the brake lines go in the drivers seat footwell is a common area for problems... but I guess it depends how crazy you want to go on it...
