Well, if it's a 16-valve turbo, the ECU is in the passenger kick panel. Remove the two black strips (one horizontal along bottom of door, other vertical at front of door below knee bolster) that hold the carpet down, peel back, there it is.
If it's an 8-valve non-turbo, it doesn't really have an ECU. It should have an "ecu" for the lambda-control, underneath the back seat, passenger side.
