If the thread pitch on your 89 900 is different from the 9000/9-3, someone might have run a tap in there at some point and changed it to a standard threading because they stripped the old threads?
Otherwise it should be the same thread and it should work with the newer plug.
Only when you are dealing with a matching number classic show car do you need to follow the 8711871 plug that takes the 8718439 copper washer for the 90 and older 900 and using the 8731762 plug with 8728057 steel with rubber washer for the 91-94 900 and then using the 9132929 plug with 9132937 washer for all newer Saab's.
And in those show case car cases, you would have to stick with the 7563042 plug and 7522709 washer for the 85-90 9000 and use the 9132929 plug and 9132937 washer for the 91 and up 9000.
So to make life really easy. You can use the 9132929 plug with 9132937 washer for just about every 99/900/9000/9-3 and 9-5 out there unless someone has repaired stripped threads with something else.
