Boiling coolant - overflow bottle Posted by DougM [Email] (#211) [Profile/Gallery] (more from DougM) on Sun, 30 Oct 2011 15:29:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
1988 900TC - engine runs smooth and no sign of coolant burning out the tail pipe, so I'm discounting posts I read about a possible headgasket problem.
Car runs cool this time of year - below halfway on the dash gauge. Pull into the driveway after a 15 mile drive and I can hear the coolant gurgling in the overflow bottle, overflowing past the cap. I deleted the AC but wired the AC cooling fan to come on with the switch in the dash. I popped the hood today after getting home and the coolant was trying to overflow the reservoir. I turned on the AC radiator fan and watched the coolant go gown in the bottle in less than a minute. The primary fan was on as well for a few seconds, but shut off pretty quick. Thermostat is maybe 2 years old - radiator is probably original. If I run the AC cooling fan all the time, I don't have this issue.
I need to solve before freezing weather comes since I'm running more water than antifreeze in it now.
