Checked with another straightedge Chaz (nice suggestion). It was still warped in the timing chain area. I had more pitting than I thought around the lower water holes on the block so I JB'd those and sanded them lightly according to the Saab bulletin on Townsend. I also JB'd the big areas on the head since I was having it resurfaced anyway. The head place did the valve seals too from the kit I got. The valves had nearly no side to side movement and the seats looked good (compression was good before taking it apart) so I left them as they were to save some $$$. Replaced the timing chain (it was at 19mm). Chain guides didn't look great but I wasn't into pulling the engine so I left them. Afterwards the new tensioner reading was 9mm. The cam sprockets looked fine so I reused them. I was very careful putting the new head gasket on and used a very thin coat of 518 around the timing chain cover (where it's supposedly the same level as the block) as well as the oil return passage on the lower right side of the block. Also a little 518 around the distributor bump and the valve cover gasket rubber plugs. Result, it runs really well. Is much quieter (chain noise way reduced), no water in oil or vice-versa. No oil or water leaking out onto the exhaust or elsewhere. So far, so good!
