As part of my repaint and extensive mechanical work on my '82 900 (ok, restoration), I replaced all of the door and windshield gaskets, firewall grommets and seals. I removed the evaporator and air box and replaced the firewall seals. After the first heavy rain that the car sat outside there was water in the front passenger footwell rubber mat. Grr. Dry on the driver's side.
Investigation showed drips coming down from the evaporator air box rear. Cause: our driveway has a 10% up grade. When the car is parked nose-up, the box drips; nose down (backing up the driveway) -dry. The drain hose is large but located at the front of the box which is good for level, nose down or slight nose up but not extreme nose up. The box can only hold so much water before it starts spilling out the rear and into the passenger compartment. My guess is blasting water from a hose just overwhelmed the front drain.
