Clunking noise from front end - 1985 900 manual Posted by Rob [Email] (#1828) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rob) on Sat, 26 Nov 2011 04:38:16 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a 1985 900 manual shift, base model. I have recently noticed a clunking noise from the front end when I go over road irregularities, which are common here in the DC area. On smooth pavement the car is quiet and noiseless but if I strike say a ridge or ripple in the pavement of any size -- such as when they fill a pothole but it is not completely filled -- I hear a clunking noise. There is no major feedback through the steering wheel and the car does not seem to pull or dart to one side when this happens, but the noise seems louder as time passes. I tried the rebound test (jumping on bumper...) to try to test shocks but that was inconclusive. Any opinions welcome so I can prepare mentally for the shop visit ahead...
