Front end clump noise over bumps Posted by Rob [Email] (#1828) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Rob) on Thu, 1 Dec 2011 14:16:58 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This is an update from an earlier post. I have a 1985 900 manual shift, base model. I have recently noticed a clunking noise from the front end when I go over road irregularities (say, a one-inch tall jump up in pavement height) but car rides fine/is quiet on smooth pavement. Thanks for earlier answers. I raised car and tugged front wheels - they don't move. Any other ball joint checks I can do? I also jumped up and down to test the shocks (not the best test but one I can do) - no noise, damps well. I revved the engine using both the throttle fitting on the engine and using a broom to push the accelerator (I'm working alone) but I saw no major movement in the engine so the mounts may be okay. The sway bar bushings look worn but are still there, if squished down. ALL suggestions welcome... thanks!
