I hate to sound like a broken record but here goes anyhow. My car was doing strange things electrically and I put up with it for a while because I was going to take it off the road for the winter and fix it then.Until it finally wouldn't start one day(dead battery)it would run fine after jump start so the alt was fine right? Wrong,I found that the first time I tested the alt it was putting out around 13.8 to 14 volts, then the next time it was putting out like 12.5 to 13 with no alt light coming on.I pulled the volt reg assy and found the brushes worn to around 3mm,the book says to replace then if worn less than 5mm.I replaced them and cleaned up the ground from the alt to the eng and all has been well since.I'm guessing the brushes were just barely making contact.
