Using coolant, or losing coolant? Are you leaving puddles or are there signs of burnt coolant on engine components in the engine bay (usually white residue), or are you burning it internally?
If you've got an external leak, it could be anyplace from at the heater core or valve (that would drip into the cabin), to a pinhole in the radiator or a coolant hose, to a failing freeze plug. Sometimes external leaks don't show up unless the motor is at operating temp and the system is pressurized.
If you pull your plugs and one or more look steam cleaned, then it's likely head gasket.
Typical external leak areas are the little L-shaped coolant bypass hose just above the turbo. That usually will leave white residue on the turbo heat shield and other hot parts in that area if it gets a pin hole. Also the large hose to the bottom of the radiator has a small branch that supplies coolant to the turbo. Since that branch and the pipe it is connected to is so low, it is prone to rust, rubber degradation, and failure. Not the easiest thing to change on a car with an automatic transmission. Freeze plugs are up under the exhaust manifold in the engine block. When they start failing, you will usually get a residue trail down the side of the engine block near where the oil return line from the turbo enters the block. You may also get some puddling in the cavity at the top of the transmission where it meets the block in that area.
If you plan to do the work on this car yourself, get the Bentley Saab 900 16V repair manual. You won't regret it.
