My first guess would be that the clutch hydraulics need a good bleeding.
With no gear selected, the clutch disc is free to spin with the flywheel & pressure plate. When you select a gear (and this should happen, no matter what gear...), and the car isn't moving, the disc is now stopped as well. If the clearance isn't sufficient between the disc, flywheel and pressure plate, it could drag, causing the squeal.
