The original 900 had the same floor console as the 99, and there was absolutely no place for coins there. From 1983, the new 900/99/90 console had the little squarish coin pocket, but only if you had an injected motor, and didn't need the choke, which resided there on carb motors, or the big "dish" the key chain dangles in usually.
Saab made a vacuum-molded tray that you could secure in that space with the included double-sided tape. That made it a tad taller, and rearranged everything into two trays that stretched left to right, and a pen slot in between. Only problem with that tray was the plastic would warp in typical US heat. I still have one in my boxes o'bits, and might decide to carve one out of wood or HDPE in my dotage... If I ever own another C900...
Oh - I think a Matchbox (R) car fits in the deep slot, too...
