Strange tach behavior

Hi all, I have a 1988 900 turbo vert with 176,000 miles on it and am having a strange tach issue. When I turn off the engine the needle will swing from zero rpm all the way to 6000 rpm then fall back to zero again. Also getting a faint after glow on oil /alt. lights for less then a second, not anywhere near full intensity but there. Any suggestions, cleaned all ground points already. Thanks.
