Hi guys,

I'm thinking of finally treating myself to my dream car and searching for a classic 900 turbo/SPG 3-door. I have my '99 9-3 which I have owned since new (150k mi) as my daily commuter, and a '11 Subaru Forester turbo for the wife/baby and as our "reliable ride", so the classic 900 would be a weekend pleasure/garage queen car.

I want something rust-free that is worth preserving for the foreseeable future. I would only take it out in nice weather, for weekend trips, saab conventions, etc.. I'd obviously tolerate some cosmetic/mechanical flaws as I understand it's an old car, as long as the price reflected the needed immediate work. I would like to avoid rust issues though, since I want to keep/preserve it for a long time. I have a great indy here locally knows knows C900s very well and has a plethora of parts cars, so I'm not worried about parts/service, and I'd also love to learn more myself.

Lately, I've noticed that asking prices seem to have risen! back in 2004, my brother purchased a 1990 talladega red SPG with 111k miles for $2800. I now see nice turbos/SPGs with asking prices of $7-$10k. While I love these cars, that would be out of my range in terms of what I'm willing to pay for the car. If I'd like to spend between $3000 and $4000, what kind of car can I expect? Living in the northeast, I understand that I may have to travel a bit to get a rust-free example. I'm a little concerned w/ the traveling thing since my local indy wouldn't be able to look it over first, and also that I may be disappointed once I see the car in person compared to the pics.

Can I get something that fits my desires above for the budget I stated? Should I allow a few years worth of time to search? lol

Thanks guys!!
