low boost troubleshooting, down to last steps Posted by camm [Email] (#191) [Profile/Gallery] (more from camm) on Sat, 1 Sep 2012 13:54:35 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi all. Car is a 1990 900TC - problem is low boost. I've gone through the myriad posts on that topic here (as well as reading up on it in my Bentley book), and went through the various tests related to the solenoid, which clicks when it is supposed to, and doesn't when it's not supposed to.
I just, as a last resort, disconnected the "W" line from the solenoid to the wastegate and went for a few laps around the block. Even with this last resort, I'm still only making about 4.5/5 lbs of boost. That is with me in 3rd, at 3k, flooring it. So, it's either plugged cat or bad turbo, correct? If a bad turbo, how do I tell? I had this engine out of the car when rebuilding the tranny earlier this year, and when looking at the turbo, it seems fine - no obvious physical wear of the turbine or compressor sides, minimal radial and axial play, no smoke or sound or anything. What do I need to look at, or look for?
